Year of the Dog (2007)

Unique because of its caricatures blended with raw emotions, Year of the Dog should appeal to people who want to understand people better.

Molly Shannon, of SNL fame, brings a weight to her lonely character Peggy. Never married, she has a pet that she mothers and a niece and nephew to spoil. Her world is flipped upside down when her pet dies and her life begins a collision course at work, her neighbourhood, the local pound, and with her brother's family.

Though much of the film is borderline farce, I couldn't help but find compassion for Peggy's plight as an animal lover. It almost had me wanting to adopt a dog.
