La Môme (2007)
Edith Piaf had an incredible voice and a magnetic persona, but her demons dominate the subject of this film.
Meriting every ounce of her Oscar, Marion Cotillard portrays the arthritic, sometimes timid, often spastic icon. There is a clear revelation of Piaf's vulnerabilities as well as her strengths.
I found this film incredibly French in style. Everything from the blend of dream and reality to the stern ending shows that the film did not bend to American palettes. The film does go on for a very long time and doesn't lift your spirits much. She had a hard life and she was very strong. Period.
Truth: Even the hardest and strongest people fall at the feet of love like children.
