State of Play (2009)
Headlining names and their good acting keep this movie from sinking down into the mass of other political thrillers that are cranked out, but it still doesn't shine.
A newspaper reporter begins to link two stories, one of them involving a personal friend. He discovers that the cockroaches begin pouring out wherever he lifts the rug. There is the usual gorgeous sidekick learning the ropes and his own life is barely holding together. He's got pressure from his editor and a possible conflict of interest. Every aspect of this genre appears.
It's a fine show, but don't expect inspiration.
