Three Kings (1999)

This smart blend of black comedy, action and drama to depict the madness of war and both the clement and savage natures of man is an example of excellent cinema. Three US soldiers in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm decide to take advantage of their status and claim booty from Saddam Hussein. Their own mission is compromised and they end up using their power for good rather than selfishness.

We don't see unique characters from the 3 protagonists, but they consistently deliver intriguing characters - plus they can't go wrong with the great writing.
