Full Metal Jacket (1987)

A dark and sober look at America's militaristic culture as seen through the eyes of Stanley Kubrick.

U.S. Marines recruits are trained and broken by their drill sergeant. They are sent on a tour of duty in Vietnam to be what they have become: killing machines.

The film is a classic because it doesn't preach or glorify anything; it portrays wars' horror with a distant coldness to remain objective with just enough humanity to keep it from being too analytical. Some amazing acting by R. Lee Ermey.
