Seven Pounds (2008)

Where Gran Torino (see below) tells a tale of sacrifice borne out of love, Seven Pounds is a savage and humanistic twist on the ideal.

Ben Thomas pursues a goal of self-sacrifice which entails donating his organs one by one to people he sees as worthy. The reason behind this offering/self-flagellation is guilt and Ben is seeking some manner of atonement in the greatest way possible. 

Will Smith does a fine job acting as does Rosario Dawson. There is a love story and there is plenty of drama, but in the end a viewer doesn't feel too much gratification or inspiration when a person tries to save himself.
