Once (2006)
This is a very simple film complimented with gorgeous music and genuine characters.
When a Czech immigrant meets a street musician in Dublin, a flurry of musical creation ensues as the friendship deepens. We meet guy and girl as they are both longing for their significant others, which produces ample emotion for creative songwriting and performing.
The obvious strength in this film is the surprisingly lush acoustic music and actual performances by the actors (really musicians posing as actors). A less obvious strength is that the actors were allowed to ad-lib and the cameras weren't obtrusively positioned. This allowed the characters room to be real and vulnerable.
This film gives hope to all independent film makers.
Truths: Romantic love can be confused with loneliness. True words from a stranger can burn off lies that one believes about himself.
