Domino (2005)

I was anticipating a bit more from this film because it was loosely based on a true story and because the writer also wrote Donnie Darko. It ultimately didn't satisfy.

The main reason is that when a film is based on some form of reality, it becomes a farce when it becomes unbelievable. The high octane explosions from about minute 90 on made the film a dud.

Domino's character as a feisty, skinny and sexy bounty hunter was also quite shallow. Her obvious rebellion side eclipsed any semblance of humanity that a viewer hopes to connect with. She was either being smart-assed, screaming, or pop-philosophizing.

I thought the use of real actors playing themselves (a couple guys from Bev Hills 90210 and Jerry Springer) was a nice touch. There was some good humour with the "blactina" and "chinegro" scene on Springer was especially entertaining.

The film seemed to be trying really hard to make violence cool. The entire film was like a mix between an MTV music video and an MTV reality show.

The real Domino Harvey probably was a bit more grounded.
